Evelyn Ficarra's work is both rooted in music and sound and strongly interdisciplinary. She seeks to find the connections between music and other art forms at every level - conceptual, material, rhythmic - using metaphor as a bridge between forms. Her interests coalesce at the borders between disciplines, where music becomes gesture becomes image, in a recursive, reversible journey, evoking contradictory impulses towards movement and stillness. A focal point for her work is recorded sound from an extensive set of sources - vocal, instrumental, environmental, mechanic, and electronic. Current preoccupations include explorations of the 'sound object' in a theatrical context; the disembodied / re-embodied nature of recorded sound; and issues of time and representation in audio and visual media.
Jesse Hewit is a dance and visual artist, currently living in San Francisco, and originally from Orlando and New York City. He makes art work, curates, writes and teaches, and currently serves the community formally as curator of Aggregate Space Gallery's Friction/Function series (Oakland), and as Programming Manager for the ODC Theater (San Francisco). Informally, he serves the community through relentless poetic proposals for equity, absurdity, and political abstraction, a.k.a. he writes poems, makes dances, and has strong one-on-one hangouts with lots of different people.
